"The Art or Way of the Foot and Fist”
 
I.    Tae Kwon Do was developed about 2000 years ago under the Koguryo and Silla dynasties in Korea. It was developed as a means of unarmed self-defense as well as conditioning. Korea is also known as Koryo and “the land of the morning calm.”
 
II.   The founder of  today’s worldwide version of  Taekwondo is General Choi Hong Hi.
 
III.  The father of Taekwondo in the United States is Grandmaster Jhoon Rhee.
 
IV. On September 16, 1961, the Korean Taekwondo Association was established. Korean
      instructors began going abroad to teach Taekwondo in the 1960s – a turning point in the
      history of Taekwondo.
 
      It came to be a world sport through the 1st World Taekwondo Championships held in Seoul,
      Korea in May 1973 with the participation of 19 countries. Their, representatives
      established the World Taekwondo Federation (WTF).
